Rebar
Rebar is short for reinforcing bar. It is made of a steel rod whose surface is patterned so it bonds with the concrete better than a smooth surface. Rebar has been used since the 15th century.

Why it is important
It is important because it reinforces houses and buildings to make the structure stronger so it won’t fall apart. Rebar reinforces concrete to make it more stable and strong so it does not break from tension.
